Our Beginning

Muscle Dept was founded in 2019 by Meikaai Datt, a competitive skateboarder, bodybuilder, fitness enthusiast, and firefighter whose life has always revolved around movement, performance, and personal growth. What began as a passion for training evolved into an obsession with the equipment that helps people become stronger.

The Journey

Before launching Muscle Dept, Meikaai spent years in the commercial fitness industry, working with some of the world’s most respected brands, including the iconic Cybex. Travelling throughout New Zealand and internationally, he developed a deep understanding of what separates ordinary equipment from equipment built to stand the test of time.

The Obsession

Muscle Dept was built on a simple belief: if we’re going to put our name behind something, it has to earn it. We travel the world, build relationships with leading manufacturers, test equipment firsthand, and search for brands that embody quality, craftsmanship, and performance. If it carries the Muscle Dept name, it has our stamp of approval.
